Dear Members of GGS

I am deeply saddened to bring you news of the passing of Mrs Elizabeth Choy, the oldest Girl Guide in Singapore and a celebrated war heroine of Singapore. She was one of the first girls to sign up in the North Borneo's inaugural Girl Guide Company in 1925. Later, when she came to Singapore in 1929, she joined the first Girl Guide Company at the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society School (CEZMS; now St Margaret's).

Mrs Choy demonstrated extraordinary valour during the Japanese Occupation in WWII, she was arrested by the Japanese, incarcerated in a tiny cell for 193 days, experienced extreme deprivation and repeated tortured > with water and electric shocks day and night. Her psychological resilience and principled stand sustained her endurance in the physical abuse and interrogation at the hands of the Kempetai.

She was decorated the Girl Guide Bronze Cross by the World Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell, in 1946. The Bronze Cross, the highest award of the Girl > Guide Movement, is an award for gallantry.

Mrs Elizabeth Choy was a symbol of courage and a truly living testimony of the Guide Law, particularly, Guide Law #7-- "A Guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties". A remarkable and inspiring role model, her passing is a great loss to all of us.

Let us pray for God's restoring peace and loving presence with her family and all those who mourn for her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Welcome to the March holidays.

Today and tommorrow[17 and 18 March] we are going to kayaking at East Coast, near the Big Splash for the 1 star kayaking course. Today we were taught some basic skills about kayaking and we had to practise in the pool. But guess what? The pool was actually sea water only that it was much cleaner as they filter it and so it was salty. We did enjoy yourself back there and yes, we are looking for tomorrow event. Hope it will be outside at the sea.

Last week, Friday 20th, we had a barbeque in school. The seniors[sec2 -3] were busy preparing for it while the CL n PLs were busy teaching the sec 1 enrolment clauses. The juniors had alot of fun especially when we played captain's ball. Some sec 2 were playing as well.
At 5.30pm, we, the PLs and CL have to start the fire,SAFETY FIRST, while the others arranged the chairs and tables. Sang grace and ate at 6pm. Well, of course, the PLs and CL have to sacrifice their dinner to cook for the juniors and all of us began eating at 8pm when everyone have cleaned and went home.
Everyone was happy and full. :-)

TO THE ORGANISERS, WITHOUT THE THREE OF YOU[AMANINA, CHERLY AND SHEMA] , THIS BBQ WOULD NOT BE A SUCCESS. AND SO WE LIKE TO SAY...........................................................

Hey girls, i just want to tell you to never give up in your drillings and most importantly, your studies. We just have to keep practising our drilling and it will be prefect on ndp itself. We have to be better than last year. I believe in you my fellow guides.

On the 24th of June, we have a campfire at Bukit Batok Secondary School.
Everyone have to go.
Meet at Chua Chu Kang Mrt station at 6.20pm sharp.
Wear full uniform including white shoes.
Just wait inside[downstairs at the control station] the station do not go out if not you waste your money. For those who stay near Bukit Batok then wait at BB mrt station by 6.35pm.
By the way think of some cheers. So see all you there!!

Outing

On the Friday, 13th of May[[sorry write late]], NCC and Girl Guides went for an outing. It was the HSBC treetop.

A very long journey,up and down hill.Steep slopes and staircases but it was a breathtaking walk.It was peaceful and the air is fresh surrounding with green sceneries.We then reached the suspended bridge.We thouhgt it was scary and really a hanging bridge but it was not and so we make the bridge swing to left and right.It has high as the tree there and we can see the view of the sea and houses afar.The brigde was kind of short.
Then we have to walk down this steep staircase so steep that I can even fall. Then we reached this hut and take a rest.There we saw this huge milipede.We got the picture which I will put up later.
On the way back, the NCC sir stop at this tower and all of us climb up.The view up there was amazing.There was several small islands and the wind was blowing very strong.We went down and count check and proceed back.It was also a long journey way back.
Everyone come back at the starting point safe and sound.
Did I mention there was alot of monkeys??
